Keeping Warm 32

Ephemera Description
MINISTRY OF HOME ECONOMY Useful tips on keeping warm Number 32
Although we are all facing a period of fiscal stringency we must not neglect to keep the home fires burning during these cold months ahead.
Here are some useful tips that might help you identify combustible objects from around the house that can provide fuel this winter.
FURNITURE: Most furniture is made of WOOD and WOOD burns. So keep only what you need and burn the rest - make it last by only burning small bits at a time - a chair leg has enough wood in it to give the average family over an hour of heat!
PAPER: There is always lots of paper around (other than newspapers and the like) that can be burned. Make sure your P45 and such official documentation is safe and burn the rest. Why even this small piece of paper is enough to warm a whole room if used correctly.
PETS: No time now to keep anything that does not earn it’s keep! We must lay aside all thoughts of luxury until we reach the sunlit uplands of tomorrow. So remember - a gerbil or hamster that is one more mouth to feed can provide heat & food for you and your dependants. There are some delicious receipts available from this office (MOHE Notice 5) and the fat that is collected is useful both for heating and light.
